A golf simulator can provide the convenience and flexibility of playing from home and an engaging and valuable golf experience, allowing you to practice and improve your skills.

To set up a golf simulator, you will need several components. Here is a list of essential items and considerations for creating a home golf simulator:

  • Space: Ensure you have enough space for the simulator setup. A room with a minimum height of 2.7m (3.1 to 3.5m is recommended for maximum clearance), a minimum width of 3.1m (3.8m to 4.7m is recommended if you want to use your driver or longest club swing.) and a depth of 4m is recommended, the longer it is, the more space there is before the ball reach the screen. It will make your ball fly further before hitting the screen. 5m is recommended depth for the room.
  • Launch monitor or tracking system: This device measures various aspects of your shots, such as ball speed, launch angle, and spin. Popular options include SkyTrak, FlightScope Mevo+, and Foresight Sports GC2 or GCQuad.
  • Golf simulator software: This software provides the virtual golf courses, gameplay, and graphics. Examples include The Golf Club 2019 (TGC2019), E6 CONNECT, and OptiShot 2.
  • Computer: A fast computing device with the necessary system requirements to run the golf simulator software smoothly.
  • Projector or display: A high-quality projector to display the simulation. If using a projector, pay attention to the brightness (measured in lumens) and resolution for the best image quality. Please see below recommendation.
  • Impact screen or enclosure: A durable, high-quality impact screen or enclosure to absorb the impact of the golf balls and project the simulation onto.
  • Hitting mat: A golf hitting mat that replicates the feel of real grass, allowing you to practice shots with your golf clubs.
  • Netting or protective barriers: Additional netting or barriers may be required to protect the surrounding walls, ceiling, and floor from errant shots.
  • Lighting: Proper lighting is essential for accurate tracking by the launch monitor and to ensure the best image quality on the projection screen.
  • Golf clubs and balls: You will need your own set of golf clubs and balls to use with the simulator.

Once you have gathered all the necessary components, you will need to assemble and calibrate the system according to the manufacturer's instructions. This process may include setting up the launch monitor, aligning the projector, and installing and configuring the golf simulator software.

How to choose a good projector for Golf Simulator?

When choosing a projector for your golf simulator, there are several factors to consider to ensure the best possible image quality and overall experience. Here's a list of key aspects to consider when selecting a projector:

  • Resolution: Choose a projector with at least 1080p (Full HD) for a good image quality. 4K resolution is recommended for a more immersive experience with sharper, more detailed images as you'll be projecting on a big screen, the larger the screen, the more detail it needs to project.
  • Brightness: A projector's brightness is measured in lumens. For a golf simulator, a brightness of at least 4000 lumens is recommended, but 5000 lumens or more is ideal for well-lit rooms or larger screens.
  • Throw ratio: The throw ratio determines the distance between the projector and the screen for a given image size. For golf simulators, a short-throw projector is often recommended to minimize shadows caused by the golfer standing between the projector and the screen. These projectors can create large images from a shorter distance.
  • Contrast ratio: A higher contrast ratio results in better image quality, with deeper blacks and brighter whites. Look for a projector with a contrast ratio of at least 10,000:1 or higher for an optimal visual experience.
  • Lamp life: Projector lamps have a limited lifespan and will eventually need to be replaced. Consider projectors with longer lamp life to minimize maintenance costs and ensure a longer usage period before needing to replace the lamp. Laser projector is highly recommended as it create less heat, can be turn on / off instantly and have at least 20000 / 30000 lamp life hours in eco mode.
  • Connectivity: Make sure the projector has the necessary connectivity options, such as HDMI or VGA, to connect to your computer running the golf simulator software.
  • Mounting options: Consider the available mounting options for the projector, such as ceiling mounts to ensure they are compatible with your space and setup requirements.
  • Noise level: Some projectors can be quite noisy, which may be distracting during gameplay. Look for a projector with a lower noise level (ideally below 30 dB) for a quieter operation.
  • Budget: Finally, consider your budget when choosing a projector. There are projectors available at various price points, but keep in mind that investing in a higher-quality projector can enhance your golf simulation experience.
